The Disastrous Date

The Disastrous Date - Thomas Kellam

I've never wanted to get in touch with paving contractors so much in my life, and that is frankly something that I never thought would come out of my mouth. However, after the experience I had yesterday just trying to find a parking spot in town so that I could meet this new guy on a blind date, I’m seriously considering taking things into my own hands and calling around a whole bunch of contractors in Edmonton.

What is the source of my anger you may wonder? How about the car parks in town that feature cracked paving that works wonders if you want to destroy your wheels or tires when you are looking to park. How the local authorities have managed to let it get that bad without contacting any paving contractors Edmonton is anybody’s guess, but apparently I get to suffer because of it.

So, I ended up being rather late for my date as I had to call a repair company out to sort out my car. The guy, bless him, decided to hang around and what for me while I got the issue sorted out. So with my car on the way to the shop I proceeded to trip over as I tried to start walking into town. Seriously, has nobody heard of any paving contractors at all? Are there just none around to fix this nonsense?

Still, after much huffing and puffing I finally arrive at the bar, looking more than a little dishevelled and with a look on my face like thunder. I could see the guy I was set to “enjoy” this evening with sat where we had arranged to meet, with a look on his face that screamed “please don’t let it be her.”

Unfortunately for him it was me and I can’t say that I did a good job of hiding my anger at the situation if I’m absolutely honest. The poor guy managed to put up with my moaning about everything that had happened for about an hour before he decided to make his excuses and leave early. I can’t say I blame him to be honest, given the state that I was in.

My best friend, who had organised the whole thing, called me up a little bit later to ask me what had happened. Needless to say, I’ve ruined any chance I may have had with him now, but such is life.
